False Equator Ahhhh, travel, the one passion that will make me quit my job, get rid of my apartment, and abandon my pets. I believe I get the travel bug from my father who took me to Hawaii when I was seven, Mexico twice to study Spanish during highschool, and other memorable trips such as the visit to the Killer Yellow Umbrellas.

I've been to 4 continents, 35 countries, and at least 30 of the 50 states, which isn't bad for an American but it's still barely a dent. It has become somewhat of an addiction, but I can think of worse things to be addicted to.

This picture shows a French couple I met in Ecuador and they're standing on the false equator. The actual equator is about 200 meters to the north.

South Africa 2004/2005
Photos from my trip through South Africa in December 2004/January 2005.

Where's Nate?
Journal entries from my world wanderings between November 2003 and April 2005.

San Francisco
No matter where I am or where I have been, San Francisco will be one of my top places in the world and a place I can call home.

Colombia 2003
I had enjoyed Colombia so much on an earlier trip that I decided to return for a couple months.

Fernie, British Columbia
My friend Michael and I spent a couple months in Canada to do some ice climbing and snowboarding and we based ourselves out of Fernie.

Rebirth Trip Journal
These are entries to an online journal that I kept while traveling through Central and South America. I call this trip a rebirth because it was exactly nine months long.

Rebirth Trip Photos
These are some highlight photos from the trip above. If I'm ambitious enough, I'll add descriptions and links back to related entries in my journal.

Guatemala
March 2001

I went to Guatemala and Belize with a couple friends for nine days and enjoyed it so much that I decided to start my trip there studying Spanish.

Hero's Journey Trip
These are photos from the first half of a trip in the summer of 1998 when I traveled through Europe with my friends Michael Karlovich and Adam Smith.

Hero's Journey Journal
Sleeping in the streets, living on a diet of bread and Nutella, sexual assault in Bristol, breakfast and whiskey with a famous actor, and more. If you want to learn how to do Europe on $5 a day or less, this is a must read.

Colombian Conflict
I met this guy while in Bogota. He's a photographer and was traveling around the country working on a project about the conflict. "(W)hilst covering the conflict in Colombia he was temporarily taken hostage, caught in a fire-fight and a bomb exploded meters from him killing the soldiers he was photographing." A couple other travelers and I had drinks with him and got first-hand accounts of his experiences and saw the photographs to go with them. Definitely a reality check for what's going on in Colombia.

Search for Sylver Goode
A few years ago my friend Michael and I went in search of a juggling guru who we hadn't seen in more than seven years. We followed the clues and signs along the way and actually managed to track him down. It was a fun adventure and makes a great story.
